Job offer preparation checklist
A written offer can leave important terms in separate policies and agreements. Work through cash, equity, benefits, job expectations and the conditions that must be satisfied before you rely on the start date.
Build a recruiter question list from the gaps in your own package. Gather the documents, flag what matters most and compare the final papers with the changes you agreed.
Know what is still missing from the offer. Gather documents, flag priorities and export the questions still open. No account or payment.
Prepare my job offer questionsFree working checklist · 23 checks · 5 stages
Know what is still missing from the offer.
Work one stage at a time. Gather the documents listed, add notes and flag what you want to discuss first. “Reviewed” records your progress; it does not mean a term is safe or agreed.
General US candidate preparation. Written terms, employer policies, benefit plans and local rules determine the package; this worksheet does not decide whether you should accept.

Before ClausePrep
The title is flattering. Equity is a big number on a slide. You are one email away from burning the bridge behind you.
After ClausePrep
Base, bonus, equity, and restrictions are in writing. You can accept — or counter — without guessing later.
Documents to request before deciding
- Written offer and every proposed employment or restrictive agreement.
- Bonus and commission plans with payment and departure rules.
- Equity award terms, vesting and exercise information.
- Benefits costs, eligibility dates and retirement vesting information.
- Work-location, reimbursement and sign-on repayment terms.
Separate cash you can rely on from assumptions
List base pay separately from target bonuses, commissions, sign-on payments and equity. For each variable amount, identify eligibility, discretion, measurement and payment timing.
Illustrative scenario: a role has an attractive target bonus, but the plan requires employment on the payout date. Keep the departure condition visible when comparing the package with another offer. A target is not a guaranteed payment.
Treat equity as its own set of documents
Identify the award type and quantity, approval status, vesting, expiry, departure treatment and any exercise cost. Ask what the quoted value assumes about pricing and liquidity.
Use qualified tax advice for material exercise or tax exposure. The worksheet organises the questions; it does not value the award or calculate tax.
Check benefit transitions and how the job works
Ask about coverage start dates, employee contributions, dependent coverage, retirement eligibility and vesting. Compare the new dates with the end of your current benefits to identify a possible gap.
Confirm title, manager, duties, location, schedule and travel. If a particular arrangement drives your decision, ask where it is recorded and how it can be changed.
Read the conditions before planning your departure
Identify pending checks and internal approvals, the acceptance deadline and the proposed start date. Arrange enough time to read every document you will be asked to sign.
Review IP, outside-work, restrictive, repayment, dispute and termination provisions. Ask counsel about terms that could materially affect future work, existing projects or money you might owe.
Make a decision from the complete final package
Choose the changes that matter to you and explain your reasons using accurate facts. Ask which terms can move, then compare the revised written offer and attachments.
Coordinate your existing notice obligations, outstanding contingencies and benefit transition before resigning. Keep the final accepted documents and written confirmations.

Questions
Is everything in a job offer negotiable?
No. Ask which terms can change and choose requests based on your priorities. Do not assume that a target bonus, future review or estimated equity value is a promise.
What if the equity documents come after acceptance?
Ask which details and approvals are still missing and whether you can review the relevant terms before deciding. If the award is material to your choice, unresolved terms deserve attention.
Does this checklist compare offers or calculate take-home pay?
No. It helps collect terms and questions. It does not calculate tax, value equity or decide which offer you should accept.
How do I save my completed worksheet?
Download the text checklist to keep every item, evidence prompt, question, status, priority, note and background source. Entries stay in the page and are not saved; export before refreshing or leaving.
Are flagged priorities an assessment of risk?
No. Discuss-first flags are your choices. They move flagged open questions to the top of your conversation plan without changing the review status.
